Navigating the Fear of Infertility in an Age of Over-Information
As a 20-year-old woman who hopes to become a mom someday, one of my biggest anxieties lately has become the potential of infertility.
I know I’m not alone.
More and more young women my age seem deeply anxious about fertility, pregnancy, and whether or not we’ll someday be able to have children. A huge part of that fear, I think, comes from the constant flood of wellness, motherhood, and fertility content on social media.

Every day, we hear about the “infertility epidemic.” We hear stories of painful miscarriages, years of trying to conceive, hormone imbalances, declining fertility rates, environmental toxins, stress, processed foods, endocrine disruptors… the list never ends.
And while some of these conversations are important, living in a constant state of fear isn’t healthy either.
Sometimes social media makes it feel like infertility is inevitable. Like our bodies could be failing before we’ve even had the chance to try.
So what do we do with that fear?
We do our best.
We nourish ourselves as best as we reasonably can. We sleep, move our bodies, get fresh air, and learn about our health without becoming consumed by it.
And sometimes, we put the phone down.
Because the world is so much bigger than our Instagram feeds.
The internet is not reality. It is a highlight reel of people’s hardest moments, strongest opinions, and deepest anxieties. Real life is fuller, softer, and often far more hopeful than what we see online.
So if you’re young and you
worry about this too, take a deep breath.
We are not doomed by a TikTok algorithm.
Look around: babies are still being born. Kids are still playing and laughing at parks. Moms are still rocking newborns in coffee shops. Families are still growing every single day.
And hopefully someday, yours will too.
